The Finca Monasterio is a stunning wedding venue located about 50 minutes drive from Marbella in Sotogrande, the perfect location for Annie and Jonny's wedding in May.

The Finca is tucked away in the Andalucian countryside yet close proximity to Sotogrande's elegant port, polo clubs and famous golf courses. The nearest airport is Gibraltar but also you can fly into Malaga.

With 32 suites and double rooms there is plenty of accommodation at the Finca Monasterio for your family and guests making it a popular charming wedding venue close to Marbella.

We are delighted to showcase this gorgeous wedding beautifully captured by Anna Miel Photography, one of our trusted wedding suppliers here in Marbella.

A May Wedding at the Finca Monasterio in Sotogrande

Annie and Jonny are from the south of Manchester, they met and fell in love at work.

Annie was always updating Jonny about her sick cat and eventually Jonny romantically proposed to Annie in Italy at the breathtaking Terrace of Infinity in Villa Cimbrone, Ravello overlooking the Amalfi Coast.

As Annie’s father lives here in Spain they wanted to plan their destination wedding where there was guaranteed sunshine!

What made them choose their wedding venue and how many months did they spend planning their wedding?

Annie says we spent about 18 months planning our wedding, however the venue made this process very simple and worked very closely with us. We wanted a relaxed and intimate wedding, while being luxurious and considered.

The venue was the only venue we viewed and as soon as we stepped foot into Finca Monasterio we knew it was the one!

What was important and what did they really want to include in their wedding day here in Spain?

The venue really helped to give us a luxurious and traditional Spanish setting. We had over 80 guests and we wanted the wedding to feel intimate, memorable and the day to feel relaxed. We wanted as much to be included for the guests as possible so they could relax and enjoy the day with us.

It was also important for us that we took time as a couple to savour the beautiful moments together during the wedding.

Were there any difficulties planning a destination wedding in Spain?

Not really, we were so impressed with how simple the whole planning process was. We found it straightforward and easy to select suppliers based on recommendations, reviews and using social media to support research.

A Butter Yellow Colour Scheme & Wedding Attire for a Destination Wedding

The pale butter yellow is hugely on trend for weddings this year and we loved this colour scheme, it worked beautifully for the relaxed vibes of Annie and Jonny’s wedding.

Annie says we wanted buttermilk yellow as the bridesmaid colour to keep the theme bright and cheerful. The flowers were a mix of pink, orange and yellow to again add colour and vibrancy.

Annie’s gorgeous dress was from an Australian designer, Made with Love and Annie chose the Harlow V2 dress.

Jonny’s suit was tailor made from Moss Bros and also his shoes, the groomsmen looked effortlessly elegant in pale linen suits from Slaters, perfectly complimenting the bridal party whose butter yellow dresses were from JJS House.

Getting Wedding Ready at the Finca Monasterio, Sotogrande

The Finca Monasterio is a larger wedding venue so there are plenty of rooms and spaces for the whole bridal party to get ready. Girls upstairs on the right hand side of the venue and the boys usually downstairs near the bar!

Annie and her girls had their hair and makeup done by Alex and Liza, two of our top bridal glam experts here in Marbella. You can read more about Alex on our trusted suppliers page.

The gorgeous bridal bouquets by B for Blooms were a beautiful mix of roses, ranunculus, sweet peas, lisianthus and alstromeria.

The Wedding Ceremony at Finca Monasterio

The ceremony was conducted under the charming natural arch at the Finca Monasterio which is often decorated with additional florals to match the wedding colour scheme.

Annie and Jonny read their personalised wedding vows and had a reading on the day from their close friend, Love like a River by Whitney Hanson.

Rings were exchanged and then it was time to celebrate!

Guests were invited into the orange tree courtyard for a post ceremony cocktail hour before the main reception.

Traditional Spanish jamon was served alongside canapes, champagne and aperol spritzers as guests mingled and listened to Jesus playing the Spanish guitar.

Wedding Reception Details at the Finca Monasterio, Sotogrande

Annie and Jonny's wedding reception was beautifully decorated to compliment their chosen colour scheme using pastel peach, pink and the pops of orange. These elegant centrepieces created by B for Blooms were a mix of roses, orange alstromeria, peach stocks and carnations mixed with lisianthus. All these flowers are able to survive the heat here in Spain.

A long top table was the focal point with round tables placed in front so everyone could see the top table and mingle.

White linens and white chiavari chairs kept the wedding scheme fresh leaving the florals and candles to shine. Each place setting was a rafia style placemat with white napkins, printed menus and a place card for each guest.

The bridal party entered the reception area to Gimme, Gimme, Gimme waving napkins ready to get the party started!

Followed closely by the newly wed bride and groom!

The reception started with some wonderful speeches overseen by DG MC and then guests were treated to a three course meal including Duck Confit & Salmon followed by a deconstructed cinnamon & apple crumble. The personalised cocktails for guests were espresso martini and spicy margaritas.

Then it was time for the party to start with the Almoraima Fusion Band in the Pavilion overlooking the pool followed by Ryan at DJ Fuller.

Special or Memorable Moments from the Day.

The venue wanted us to take time to enjoy the day, we were really appreciative when they set a place setting with our favourite drinks so we could have a special moment just the two of us and enjoy canapés without distraction.

Also our photographer Anna was exceptional on the day making sure we were able to enjoy the wedding with our guests and still capture key photos / moments together without stress or pressure.

We wish Annie and Jonny a lifetime of happiness and congratulations on your beautiful wedding here in Spain.
